A Faculty Development Workshop Co-Sponsored by ACTC, the Teagle Foundation, and the Lincoln Scholars Program at American University
May
Spend a week this summer discussing First Year Seminar books and pedagogies with experienced seminar leaders. Whether you have been teaching a First Year Seminar for years or you are thinking about teaching one in the future, we believe you will find this week to be a productive and enjoyable way to develop your thoughts on teaching First Year Seminars and your seminar-leading skills.
Each morning will be spent in two seminar sessions divided by a coffee break. In these morning sessions we will model First Year Seminar classes. We will focus on the assigned readings and what we make of them. In the afternoon, we will discuss First Year Seminar pedagogies, strategies for seminar leading, and other issues surrounding the work of being a First Year Seminar Teacher. We will reserve plenty of time in the evenings for you to explore Washington D.C.
We will be led by discussion leaders Molly McGrath (Assumption) and Theodore Hadzi-Antich (Austin Community College). Both Molly and Ted are veteran seminar leaders who will bring years of experience and quite a bit of wisdom to our workshop.
